Our Story

Kathy and John chased a dream to move to Vermont and start a farm, having had careers as science teachers in the Philadelphia area. Kathy had attended University of Vermont, fell in love with the state, and vowed to return one day. John left teaching to take his lifelong organic gardening passion to the next level. They looked at a number of farms across southern Vermont, and when they found the Farm at Williams River House, they knew they had found someplace really special – a front row view of Fox Chair Mountain, verdant green hayfields, timeless stone walls and split rail fences, and a stately home dating back to the time of our nation’s founding! They were home, and they wanted to share this magical and romantic space with others.

Come share in our growing farm adventure. Meet Fluffy and all our other chickens, pick delectable pears and apples in season, enjoy a secluded reading nook among the flower gardens, or explore the rich aromas of our colonial herb garden. The hardest choice may be selecting your favorite wedding backdrop  – a terrace along the Silvan brook, expansive green fields, a hilltop gazebo, a quaint post and beam barn, or picturesque Fox Chair Mountain.
